Fatty Placenta
نویسنده
چکیده
Dr Cairns said he had seen the placenta loaded with fat, and the child nevertheless healthy; whereas, in other cases, the afterbirth was apparently free from disease, and the child was still-born. He had never found much benefit from the chlorate of potass. He mentioned a case in which much good resulted from a mercurial course to both father and mother, and he was of opinion that blue pill was more efficacious than chlorate of potass.

Differential regional fatty acid distribution in normotensive and preeclampsia placenta.
BACKGROUND Long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) are biologically active fatty acids which regulate placental angiogenesis, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Abnormalities in these aspects have been associated with preeclampsia (PE). Further, placenta has a heterogeneous structure with differential vascularization across different regions. We therefore hypothesize that the distribu...
متن کاملPlacental transfer of fatty acids.
Information derived from animal investigations using labelled thtty acid infusions and measurements of the fatty acid concentrations found in the various fractions i n maternal and foetal umbilical artery and venous blood and tissues have shown that the net flux of fatty acid from mother t o foetus across the placenta varies greatly from species to species. In general, in those species with mat...
متن کاملReal-Time Tracking of BODIPY-C12 Long-Chain Fatty Acid in Human Term Placenta Reveals Unique Lipid Dynamics in Cytotrophoblast Cells.
While the human placenta must provide selected long-chain fatty acids to support the developing fetal brain, little is known about the mechanisms underlying the transport process. We tracked the movement of the fluorescently labeled long-chain fatty acid analogue, BODIPY-C12, across the cell layers of living explants of human term placenta. Although all layers took up the fatty acid, rapid este...
متن کاملHuman placenta metabolizes fatty acids: implications for fetal fatty acid oxidation disorders and maternal liver diseases.
The role of fat metabolism during human pregnancy and in placental growth and function is poorly understood. Mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation disorders in an affected fetus are associated with maternal diseases of pregnancy, including preeclampsia, acute fatty liver of pregnancy, and the hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets syndrome called HELLP. We have investigated the devel...
متن کاملDifferential Long-Chain Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids Status and Placental Transport in Adolescent Pregnancies
Adolescent pregnancy increases risk of adverse perinatal outcomes. Placental delivery of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) is essential for fetal growth and development. In this pilot study, we aimed to assess maternal and fetal status of fatty acids (FA) measured at birth and the expression of key genes involved in FA uptake, transport and metabolism in the placenta of fifteen ad...
متن کاملRegulation of ADRP expression by long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids in BeWo cells, a human placental choriocarcinoma cell line.
Transplacental transfer of maternal fatty acids is critical for fetal growth and development. In the placenta, a preferential uptake of fatty acids toward long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) has been demonstrated. Adipose differentiation-related protein (ADRP) is a lipid droplet-associated protein that has been ascribed a role in cellular fatty acid uptake and storage. However, its...
